Portsmouth Man Suffers Neck Wound in Alleged Vandalism
Police said the 27-year-old suffered a severe laceration to his neck after the MetroPCS window was smashed.
Newport Police charged a 27-year-old Portsmouth man with vandalism on Saturday after he allegedly smashed a Broadway business’ window and suffered serious injuries to his neck in the process.
Police said Mark J. McKenna, of 2431 East Main Road, Portsmouth, allegedly smashed the window to the MetroPCS store at 70 Broadway shortly after midnight.
An officer on patrol was flagged down by the doorman to an area bar who told him that he heard a smash and saw a group of people near the MetroPCS store.

Nothing was disturbed inside the store.
At the hospital, police said McKenna refused to offer any details about the incident or his injury. He was later transported to Rhode Island Hospital for additional treatment.
He was eventually released from the hospital and the investigation continued. Eventually, Newport police obtained a warrant for McKenna’s arrest on a charge of vandalism. He was picked up by Portsmouth Police a short time later.
McKenna was due to be arraigned on Monday.
