Portsmouth MOA with DEM on Wastewater Management Described on PTW
Town Planner Gary Crosby Discusses the Town/DEM Memorandum of Agreement on Wastewater Treatment

Town Planner Gary Crosby was out guest on Friday’s edition of Portsmouth this Week, discussing the new Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Town of Portsmouth and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM). The agreement puts the RIDEM Clean Water Act Notice of Violation for Island Park and Portsmouth Park on hold and allows the Town to go forward with the development of a Wastewater Management Plan based on individual wastewater septic systems, rather than a central sewer system. The plan will require all residences in Portsmouth to have their wastewater systems tested and these inspections will be overseen by a new Wastewater Manager to be appointed in the coming year. Further information on this plan is available on the Town Website www.portsmouthri.com
or by calling the Town Planner’s office at 643-0332. Watch this program for further details.
