Ujifusa Leads In State Rep Race Representing Portsmouth

The winner will go on to face Emmanuel Nyema in the general election and will try to keep the seat blue.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — With 90 percent of precincts reported, Portsmouth Linda Ujiusa leads over Matt Chappel in the District 11 Democratic primary state representative race.

Newport Daily News projected Ujifusa will win the primary. She leads 1,544-1,192 over Chappell with just to percent of precincts still to be counted.

The winner will go on to face Emmanuel Nyema in the general election and will try to keep the seat blue. The winner will succeed Sen. James Seveney, who is not seeking re-election.
