Portsmouth School Committee, Teachers' Union Close to Agreement
The Portsmouth School Committee will hold a special meeting next Monday to discuss the teachers' union contract negotiations.

Cynthia Perrotti, chairwoman of the Portsmouth School Committee, opened Tuesday's meeting with an announcement on the ongoing teachers' contract negotations.
The School Committee has scheduled a special meeting to discuss the contract. The meeting will be held next Monday at 7 p.m. at a location to be determined.
The Portsmouth NEA is currently 328 days without a contract.

"We are hopeful about any progress we will make, but we will be removing Item C (on the agenda) tonight," Perrotti said. The item was regarding the Portsmouth NEA contract.
Joe Cassady, president of Portsmouth NEA, said the two parties were nearing an end to talks. "We are close," Cassady said Tuesday night.

As of today, teachers will return to their classrooms next week without a contract if an agreement is not reached. The first day of school is Aug. 31, with teachers returning on Aug. 30.
