Portsmouth Transfer Station Hours to Change for Construction Project
The $217,000 project will make much-needed repairs to the transfer station, which will have a change of hours for about a month.

The hours of operation at the Portsmouth Transfer Station will be changed beginning Sept. 14 as a result of a construction project.
The town has hired J.R. Vinagro to rebuild the run-down transfer station, a town news release stated.
The new hours will be Thursday through Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will be closed Monday through Wednesdsay.

J.R. Vinagro responded to the town’s RFP issued earlier this year.
The old corrugated steel building was in rough shape after years of wear and tear and damage from storms.
The town set aside more than $235,000 last year in capital funds to pay for the repair project and formally budgeted $200,000.
The project will end up costing $217,440.63, according to the contract.
Then-Acting Town Manager Jim Lathrop said in a May 19 memo that ”savings from other projects will cover the additional cost.”
When the town approved the contract in May, Nick Romano of Johnston-based J.R. Vinagro said that the company would honor the time schedule in the proposal.
Jersey barriers will be placed at the edge of the property so cars can still drive on the back side of the pit, he said. Chain link fencing will surround the pit while the old building is torn down.
The building’s footprint will remain the same but the door opening will be bigger, Romano said.
