Prayer Vigil for Matthew Pierce
Tuesday, January 12
Starting at 5:30am

Portsmouth United Methodist Church
2732 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI
401-683-4005

Matthew Pierce, has been an active member of the PUMC community since his family moved here 13 years ago. Matthew has been part of the Sunday School and Youth Group, he has traveled to the Henderson Settlement in Kentucky, and is responsible for the beautiful wooden cross in front of the church. The cross was Matthew’s Senior Project for Portsmouth High School. PUMC has been an important part of Matthew’s life and he is facing a challenge right now that requires the support of his entire church family!

Matthew has been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. He has been undergoing chemotherapy since early fall and is now ready for the next step in his healing – surgery. Matt will enter Dana Farber in Boston and have surgery on Tuesday, January 12.

We will be holding a Prayer Vigil at PUMC for Matthew the day of his surgery. We will start at 5:30am when he starts pre-op and continue until he is out of surgery and into the recovery process. Please join us in prayer at church, at your home, at work, wherever you are that day to help carry Matthew and his family through this enormous challenge.

We will hold the vigil in the sanctuary. There will be a message of love station set up in the sanctuary to send messages of love and strength to Matt and his family. Food and an information update center will be sent up in the parlor. (Coffee and muffins start at 5:30am) Entry will be through the door near the Pastor’s Office. We will be limited in access to the building as nursery school will be in session at the same time.

Donations of food and drinks are appreciated; please contact Karen Meyer or Melissa Costa if you will be able to provide support. We would like to have a social host and a prayer host available at all times. Please sign up on the schedule outside the office or again, check with Karen or Melissa. Thank you so much for your prayers and your support!

We need you to help keep our Matthew Strong!
