Residents Escape Prudence Island Fire

The fire broke out on Brown Lane Wednesday afternoon.

Nobody was hurt in a fire that damaged a one-and-a-half story home on Brown Lane on Prudence Island on Wednesday.

The fire broke out just around 1:30 p.m. and everyone inside the house escaped safely, firefighters said.

Crews from North Kingstown and Bristol came to the aid of Prudence Island Volunteer and Portsmouth Firefighters to battle the blaze, which was occupied at the time the fire broke out.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire despite challenging conditions amplified by the fact that Prudence Island is isolated.
