Sewing Needle Found in Halloween Candy

Police are trying to identify the culprit and have narrowed down the area where the child went for trick-or-treat.

PORTSMOUTH, RI – Police want to know who hid a sewing needle inside a Halloween candy.

According to Maj.Brian P. Peters, the deputy chief, the candy was a .55 oz Air Heads bar which contained a sewing needle approximately two inches long.

The candy was given to a child, who "had gone trick or treating on several streets in Portsmouth and also attended a trick or treating event in town," he said.

"Out of an abundance of caution we are encouraging all parents to thoroughly double check all their remaining candy that their children received," he added.

Police are looking to identify where the candy came from. According to Det. Lt. Alberto J. Bucci, police have narrowed the search to Sea Meadow Drive, Peleg Road, Fairview Avenue, and Lepes Road. They are also looking at the Trick or Treat event held in the St, Barnabus parking lot, he said.
