Showers, T-Storms to Start Next Week before Sunny Stretch

After great weather this weekend, showers and possible thunderstorms will return to the area to start next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers are expected to arrive Monday afternoon into the night and will last on and off through Tuesday night. But don’t fear — warmer weather, especially inland, returns on Wednesday.

In fact, it will feel like summer for most of Rhode Island through the rest of the week with high temperatures in the low 80s. Nighttime lows will only dip into the lower 60s.

It will be substantially cooler on the coast, thanks to cool ocean temperatures. Expect highs in the lower 70s Wednesday through Saturday.

Here’s the local forecast for Portsmouth:

Monday: A slight chance of showers after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 67. South wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday Night: A chance of showers, mainly after 7pm. Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 10am. Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers. Patchy fog between 9pm and 11pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 76.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 74.
