Stars & Stripes To Fly Over Mount Hope Bridge, Weather Permitting
The state has plans for the Mount Hope Bridge's first-ever U.S. flag installation, the state Turnpike and Bridge Authority said Tuesday.

BRISTOL, RI — The Mount Hope Bridge is to be decorated in time for the Bristol Fourth of July celebration, according to the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority. Weather-permitting, a ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Thursday recognizing the first ever installation of a new 16 by 30' American flag. It will hang from the north tower of the Mount Hope Bridge between Portsmouth and Bristol.
"The placement of the flag is envisioned to celebrate the Bristol Fourth of July Parade and the events leading up to the parade, which is the oldest celebration of Independence Day in the nation," RITBA said. "The ceremony will also honor Veterans and current military personnel for their service."
