Veterans Day Plans and Library "Tasting" Social Event Discussed on PTW

Two segments discuss major upcoming events in Portsmouth

Carlton Johnson, CDR, USN(Ret), and John Mangold, LtCol, USMC (Ret), representing Portsmouth’s VFW and American Legion posts respectively, discussed plans to honor Vietnam-era veterans on Veteran’s Day,11 November. Local sponsors are still needed to support this effort and local veterans who haven’t yet signed up for this event can still do so by emailing their dates and branch of service to namvet2014@gmail.com or telephoning Carolyn Evans Carbery at 683-9375. Mark this date on your calendar and show your support to our local veterans by attending this public ceremony at Portsmouth High School at 9 AM.

In our second segment, Portsmouth Free Public Library Board Trustees Tia Scgulinsky and Dave Miller (in photo) discussed plans for the Library’s annual fundraiser a “Tasting in Portsmouth” scheduled for Friday, 17 October from 7-9 PM. This event has become the major social event in Portsmouth, and provides an opportunity to sample the wares of our local restaurants and food/beverage providers, while chatting with your friends, neighbors and local business and political leaders.Since this is an election year, we should have an opportunity to meet with most of our elected officials at this annual event, which provides funding support for the many varied and interesting programs that our library provides. Tickets are $20 for Library Association members and $25 for non-members and are available in advance at the library or at the door on the 17th. Come out and support our gem of a library and socialize with your neighbors while sipping a glass of Greenvale Skipping Stone wine (my personal favorite). Mark the date: Friday, 17 October, at the library from 7-9 PM.
