VIDEO: Flo's Clam Shack Wraps Up Early After Gift From Hurricane Irene

Flo's Clam Shack, which was nearly wiped away by Hurricane Bob, will close on Saturday in preparation for a new hurricane a little more than 20 years later.

What started out as a Facebook joke has turned into a very real business boom for on Park Avenue. 

Many local residents remember 20 years ago when the beloved clam shack on Park Avenue.

Since word of Hurricane Irene, business has been booming thanks to social media comments like this one on Facebook from Patch columnist :

"Decided to have lunch at Flo's in I.P. just in case it washes away again!"

The clam shack has been very busy these past few days, but will close today, Saturday, at 5 p.m. to prepare for . The shack will remain closed during the storm.

Since Hurricane Bob, the clam shack has installed new hurricane flood gates, which will be opened. All equipment will be moved Saturday to the Middletown location. 

Stephen Borden, manager of Flo's Clam Shack for the past 32 years and an Island Park resident, talks about what he expects from Irene in the video above.
