Viewfinder: Summer Drinks Cool Off Local Residents

With temperatures soaring into the 90s, where do you go to cool off?

Many choose the beach or an air-conditioned room.However, in these times of extreme heat, many just want a rememberance of the past, when they were children and times were good and the best remedey for a hot summer day was a cool, frothy, chilled milkshake like the one from the Five and Dime down the road.

was pouring several milkshakes this week, with a twist.

The "milkshake" has been around since the late 1800s and is still going strong in our culture and others as it has evolved from a whiskey-based drink to one a syrup one in strawberry, chocolate and vanilla flavors.

Today, at Anna D Cafe, two recent Portsmouth High School graduates reflect on the power of ice cream as they scoop up some local, favorite ice cream flavors.
