Whiz Kid: Ashley 'Sugar' Roggero Ties for 10th at Golf Championship

Ashley Roggero, a freshman at Portsmouth High School, recently tied for 10th place in the Rhode Island Interscholastic Girls Golf Championship.

This week, we spotlight freshman Ashley "Sugar" Roggero as Portsmouth Patch's Whiz Kid of the Week.

Ashley recently tied for 10th place in the Rhode Island Interscholastic Girls Golf Championship. The top 10 players in each New England state go on to compete in the New England Golf Championship in Keene, NH.

Key to Awesomeness: Ashley has been playing golf since she was 5 years old at Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club and was a two-time junior club champion. She has played with the Rhode Island Women’s Golf Association Junior program for five years and won their Division II championship in 2010.

She played with the Portsmouth High School golf team this year and is being coached by Gary Dorsi at . She began competing in U.S. Challenge Cup tournaments this year to gain experience and exposure. Her intention is to attend a golf academy/college and would like to eventually become a professional golfer on the LPGA tour.
