Whiz Kid: Hayley Kirwin Praised as 'Unsung Hero' of Senior Class

Hayley Kirwin, 18, a senior of Portsmouth High School, works behind the scenes to benefit the Class of 2011.

This week, we spotlight high school senior Hayley Kirwin as Portsmouth Patch's Whiz Kid of the Week.

Hayley is the "unsung hero" of the Portsmouth High School's senior class, according to Assistant Vice Principal Jeff Goss. "She is the Student Council vice president and does a great deal of behind the scenes work for the class," Goss wrote in an e-mail.

Hayley is also co-captain of the Portsmouth High School girls' lacrosse team, leading them to the state playoffs, which begin this Friday.

Key to Awesomeness: Hayley is also an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and volunteers at Shake-A-Leg, a Newport-based summer camp that works with disabled children and teens to build self-esteem and confidence. 

After graduation, Hayley plans to attend the University of New Hampshire, where she will study occupational therapy.
