Whiz Kid: Hayley Kirwin Praised as 'Unsung Hero' of Senior Class

This week, we spotlight high school senior Hayley Kirwin as Portsmouth Patch's Whiz Kid of the Week.

Name: Hayley Kirwin, 18
School: Junior,
Accomplishment: Hayley is the "unsung hero" of the Portsmouth High School's senior class, according to Assistant Vice Principal Jeff Goss. "She is the Student Council vice president and does a great deal of behind the scenes work for the class," Goss wrote in an e-mail.

Hayley is also co-captain of the Portsmouth High School girls' lacrosse team, leading them to the state playoffs, which begin this Friday.

Key to Awesomeness: Hayley is also an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and volunteers at Shake-A-Leg, a Newport-based summer camp that works with disabled children and teens to build self-esteem and confidence. 

After graduation, Hayley plans to attend the University of New Hampshire, where she will study occupational therapy.
