Whiz Kid: Kiernan McCarthy Is Melville's 'Leader of the Day'

This week, we spotlight Melville Elementary School student Kiernan McCarthy as Portsmouth Patch's Whiz Kid of the Week.

Name: Kiernan McCarthy
School: Grade 1,
Accomplishment: Kiernan received six “Leader of the Day Awards” this past school year. She also took a turn at growing baby chicks at her home with the help of her mom and dad.

Kiernan says she loves to read and excels in math. In fact, Kiernan has already started algebra in school.

As for sports, she consistently wins hula hoop competitions in her gymnastics classes at the YMCA. She says she enjoys playing Portsmouth Youth Soccer and takes swim classes at the YMCA to eventually become a competitive swimmer.

Key to Awesomeness: Kiernan is competitive and is extremely persistent with a nature to never give up until she has mastered the goal at hand.
