Woman Drives 105 MPH With Toddler On Portsmouth Bridge: Police

Police said Brittney Fowlkes, of Newport, drove 55 mph over the speed limit on the Sakonnet River Bridge, while with her 18-month-old child.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — A Newport woman was arrested Monday after police said she drove 105 mph while her 18-month-old child was in the car.

Brittney Fowlkes, 28, was charged with reckless driving. According to police, the arrest happened around 8 p.m. Police said Fowlkes was driving over the Sakonnet River Bridge when she was pulled over.

The posted speed limit on the bridge is 50 mph, and police said Fowlkes' driving was a danger to the public.

Police told Turn to 10 News Fowlkes was arraigned Tuesday and pleaded in the case, receiving a year of probation and a one-year suspended sentence.
