Woman Charged In 'Road Rage Incident' Threw Can And Bottle, Hit 2 Passengers: Cops

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence woman arrested in connection with a "road rage incident" managed to strike two backseat passengers in another vehicle with a flung ginger ale can and Dunkin' Bottle, police said.

Marena Cruz, 34, was arrested May 7 on charges of throwing an article at a moving vehicle, simple assault, disorderly conduct and driving with a suspended license.

Cruz was arrested after a 38-year-old North Carolina woman told a state trooper that a Toyota Camry cut her off on Interstate 95 in Providence, then pulled up next to the driver's side of her van, according to a Rhode Island State Police report.

The driver of the Camry "threw a red ginger ale can and a metal Dunkin' Donuts bottle through the rear driver side window," the report said. "Subsequently, the Ginger Ale can struck the rear driver side passenger ... and the metal bottle struck the rear passenger side passenger ... in the head."

The trooper "observed there to be a wet substance splattered on the driver side of (the woman's) van and a ginger ale can and a metal Dunkin' Donuts bottle inside the van," according to the report. "Furthermore, I observed (one of the passengers) to have bruising and swelling on his forehead."
Both passengers were "evaluated by Providence Rescue for complaints of pain," the report said.

Cruz "also contacted 911 regarding the incident" and told a trooper "she had just been involved in a road rage incident on" I-95, according to the report.

When a trooper questioned Cruz about the matter, "she stated, 'The best thing they got was water ... If I threw anything back that's on them and I don't care ... they were throwing at me and I threw at them,'" the report said.

The trooper also determined Cruz's license was suspended from a refusal to submit to a chemical test conviction, according to the report.
