Providence Fire Department Expands EMS Coverage and Modernizes Rescue Fleet (patch.com) β Providence residents can expect stronger emergency medical coverage as the city adds a 10th staffed rescue unit during peak demand and deploys a new rescue vehicle at the Broad Street Fire Station. Fire Chief Derek Silva and Mayor Brett Smiley say the investment boosts response capacity, modernizes the rescue fleet, and reduces reliance on neighboring communities for EMS support.

Providence Woman Charged With Driving On Suspended License: Cops (patch.com) β Police say a 39-year-old Providence woman was stopped on Bridgham Street and charged with driving on a suspended license, then taken to the Lincoln Woods Barracks. She was held overnight as an alleged probation violator and is awaiting arraignment in Sixth Division District Court, a case closely tied to Providence streets and residents.

Wanted Cranston Man Captured: Cops (patch.com) β Police say a 40-year-old Cranston man wanted for failing to appear in court on a breaking and entering charge was stopped and arrested on Charles Street in Providence Monday morning. He was processed at the Lincoln Woods barracks and taken to court, highlighting ongoing state police activity in the Providence area.

URI Study Measures RI's Hidden Homeless Population (upriseri.com) β A new University of Rhode Island study finds Providence has about 2,832 residents living doubled-up with others because they can't afford their own housing, the largest share in the state. Researchers say thousands of Rhode Islanders in similar situations aren't counted in federal homelessness totals, leaving many Providence families ineligible for key housing assistance programs.

Rhode Island Chronic School Absenteeism Declines For 4th Straight Year (patch.com) β Providence schools have slashed chronic absenteeism to 25.3% for 2025β26, down more than 31 percentage points since the pandemic peak, recovering huge amounts of classroom time for local students. Statewide, Rhode Island reports four straight years of improvement, with officials stressing that consistent attendance remains crucial to keeping this progress going.
