Providence Review Finds Police Response to Brown University Shooting Was Appropriate – [your]NEWS (yournews.com) — Providence officials have released an independent review finding city police and Brown University security responded appropriately to last December's campus shooting, while still identifying 18 ways to improve future emergencies. For Providence residents and students, the report's recommendations—especially a new tiered alert system and stronger interagency coordination—aim to sharpen communication, preparedness, and campus safety as the new academic year begins.
   

2. 'Long overdue': Vietnam Memorial in Providence takes a major step forward (providencejournal.com) — A new Rhode Island Vietnam Veterans Memorial site in downtown Providence is being finalized today with a deed transfer for riverfront land near Dyer Street. Local veterans and families are invited to the 1 p.m. ceremony, and organizers are beginning fundraising to build the memorial that will join other remembrance sites along the Providence Riverwalk.
   

3. The 10 Best Colleges In Rhode Island, According To New 2027 Ranking (patch.com) — Providence residents can take pride that Brown University, based in the city, was named Rhode Island's top college and ranked 12th nationally in Niche's new 2027 list. Providence College, RISD, URI, Bryant, and several other in-state schools also earned strong placements, with Rhode Island institutions appearing prominently in specialty rankings for international relations, global studies, and Catholic education.
   

4. Beacon Bank collects record 7,500 pounds of food in Rhode Island drive (pbn.com) — Beacon Bank's recent Rhode Island food drive brought in a record 7,500 pounds of nonperishables, with its East Providence Highland Avenue branch among the top collectors. Donations are being distributed to 14 local food pantries, helping address food insecurity in communities across the state, including those close to Providence residents.
