Rhode Island independent artist, broadcaster and musician Tony Jones is honoring 50 years of the Ramones with a new recording of "Cretin Hop," released September 7, 2026 on Cretin Records.
Originally recorded by the Ramones for their 1977 album Rocket to Russia, "Cretin Hop" is a short, fast and unmistakably Ramones track. Jones' new version keeps the energy and immediacy of the original while bringing his own interpretation to the song.
At just 1:55, Jones' "Cretin Hop" is a high-energy track with a natural fit for college, independent and alternative radio.
The release is part of Jones' celebration of the Ramones and their lasting influence on punk, rock and independent music. Fifty years after the band's formation, their sound continues to influence musicians and listeners across generations.
"I wanted to celebrate the Ramones by having some fun with one of their songs," said Jones. "There is something timeless about the energy of the Ramones. Fifty years later, that energy still works."
"Cretin Hop" by Tony Jones is available now on major streaming platforms.
