📰 News we're reading

1. Morales: Rent control in Providence could be enforced by next fall at the earliest (wpri.com) — Providence renters and landlords could see rent stabilization enforced as early as fall 2027 if David Morales wins the mayor's race and secures council approval. He's also outlining plans for police staffing, a new public safety commissioner focused on restorative justice, and shutting off the city's Flock license-plate cameras, while Republican opponent David Talan argues rent control won't fix the housing crunch.

2. Here are the 10 most-booked restaurants in Providence, OpenTable says (providencejournal.com) — If you're looking for a great night out in Providence, OpenTable's latest rankings spotlight the 10 most-booked spots in Greater Providence, from seafood on South Main to Italian favorites on Federal Hill. With addresses, price ranges, and standout dishes listed, it's an easy way to discover where locals are actually eating right now.

3. More Providence Schools Chaos: Call for Providence… (golocalprov.com) — Providence families face fresh turmoil on the school board after a press release demanding Board President Ty'Relle Stephens' resignation was issued, then abruptly retracted, with at least one former member denying involvement. Stephens is pushing back, suggesting state education officials are undermining local control just months after the district returned from state takeover. The next school board meeting is Wednesday at 6 p.m. on Westminster Street.

4. Gevorg Tamamyan: Honored to Co-Chair the Cooperative Group With ACS Panel at the WIN Symposium (oncodaily.com) — Providence will host the international WIN Symposium 2026 at the Rhode Island Convention Center on October 2–3, bringing cancer researchers and cooperative group leaders together for a high-profile panel co-chaired by OncoDaily's Gevorg Tamamyan. Local clinicians, scientists, and patients' advocates can register to hear discussions on collaboration across the cancer research ecosystem. The event is endorsed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology, though not ASCO-sponsored.

5. Drake Maye and Ann Michael give $15K to Providence school for classroom supplies (patsfans.com) — Teachers at Alfred Lima Sr. Elementary School in Providence just received a big boost, thanks to a $15,000 donation from Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and his wife. The gift funds Amazon wish lists for all 54 teachers and staff, helping them buy books, classroom games, and tech tools that many usually pay for out of pocket, especially for multilingual learners.
