Today's riddle: What do you call somebody who crosses the ocean twice and doesn't take a bath? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Hope & Main Opens West End Kitchens in Providence (pvdeye.org) — A new Hope & Main "West End Kitchens" culinary incubator has opened on Westminster Street in Providence's West End, offering fully equipped commercial kitchens and support for 35 startup food businesses. The nonprofit aims to launch more local "foodpreneurs," strengthen Federal Hill's restaurant scene, and help Providence-based graduates grow into their own storefronts across the city.
2. Providence Committee Limits No-Turn-On-Red Rule to Downtown (upriseri.com) — Downtown Providence drivers could soon be barred from turning right on red, after a City Council committee advanced an ordinance limiting the ban to downtown and cutting the fine to $50 after a first warning. The full council still must vote, but the measure is framed as a safety-focused pilot that could later shape rules across the city.
3. What's the most expensive property sold in RI? Oct. 10 real estate transactions (providencejournal.com) — Recent property transfers include numerous home sales across Providence, giving a clear snapshot of current prices in neighborhoods from Stockwell Street to Hope Street and beyond. Buyers and sellers can see how single-family homes, condos, and multifamily properties are trading right now, alongside top-dollar deals elsewhere in Rhode Island.
4. Help a Little Girl Heal: Medical Care, Recovery (gofundme.com) — A Providence family is seeking help after a father's wife and 2-year-old daughter were both stabbed in the city, leaving the child in critical condition. With both parents unable to work, donations will go toward the toddler's long-term medical care and the mother's recovery and mental health support so they can focus on healing instead of mounting bills.
5. Is it legal to park in front of someone's house in Rhode Island? See law (providencejournal.com) — If you park on Providence streets overnight, you generally need a valid overnight parking or guest permit, or you risk a ticket or tow between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. A statewide explainer also clarifies that parking in front of someone's house on a public street is usually legal, but blocking driveways or violating local ordinances can get your car removed.
