Brown University Appoints Former Providence Police Chief Permanent Public Safety VP
Col. Hugh T. Clements Jr. has served as the interim vice president of public safety since December.
PROVIDENCE, RI — Brown University placed interim Vice President of Public Safety Hugh T. Clements Jr. in a permanent role.
Clements, the former chief of the Providence Police Department, was hired as the interim vice president in the wake of the Dec. 13 mass shooting that claimed the lives of two students and wounded nine others.
Clements replaced Vice President for Public Safety and Emergency Management Rodney Chatman, who was placed on administrative leave, "effective immediately," nine days after the mass shooting, the university said in a statement issued Dec. 22.
