Children, ages 2-4 with parent or caregiver, will investigate the world around them as they sing, dance and discover in this monthly series! Takes place the first Friday of each month, October through June, at 10:00am. Each session will contain age-appropriate stories, songs, poems and a craft related to the topic. Expose your preschool child to science and culture in a unique and stimulating museum setting! Program Fee per session: Free with museum admission. Welcome to Emo Night Brooklyn, a late-night, DJ-driven dance party blasting the best emo and pop punk jams that raised us, ruined us, and somehow still define us. We’re taking over Alchemy in Providence on 1 May 2026 for a night of screaming every word, moshing with strangers, and feeling absolutely everything.
This is not a quiet night out. Expect wall-to-wall emo and pop punk anthems, deep cuts, and songs you still know by heart even if you pretend you’ve “moved on.” From the tracks that got you through your worst years to the ones that still hit a little too hard, Emo Night Brooklyn is all about losing your voice, finding your people, and reliving the music that made us who we are. You will have the opportunity to discover, or rediscover, the fascinating collections during this private program exploring the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Roger Williams Park. Bring a small easel or chair and your drawing or painting materials, and choose your subject from the collections of birds, bears, lions, and Oceanic artifacts. Museum staff will also select some special “guests” from the museum vaults to display. During the program, the instructor will circulate for those who wish feedback, and at the end of the session, attendees will gather to view and discuss each other’s work. Museum is closed to the public during this program.

The Barker Playhouse

The Players at the Barker Playhouse present the final production of their 117th mainstage season, TALK RADIO. This underperformed classic, originally created by Eric Bogosian and Tad Savinar, will open Friday, May 8th and run through Sunday, May 17th. Tickets can be purchased via The Players Box Office at https://www.playersri.org/.
Barry Champlain, controversial regional radio host, is on the air doing what he does best: insulting the pathetic souls who call in the middle of the night to sound off. Tomorrow, Barry's show is going into national syndication, and his producer is afraid that Barry will say something that will offend the sponsors. As his professional life ascends, Barry's personal life and sanity unravel, marked by escalating threats from listeners and a confrontation with a deranged caller that may have deadly consequences.
Based on a true story, Talk Radio is even more prescient today, where podcasts have become the primary medium for what used to be AM/FM radio shock jocks (mostly). The play walks the edge between exploring the boundaries of free speech and the consequences of exploring that right. Are the so-called warriors of the First Amendment really who they seem, or is it all a facade? 
Talk Radio is a disturbing, often darkly humorous play. There are several triggers and hot button topics that firmly place the script in the late 1980's, but also firmly in 2026. This production will lean into a multimedia experience to tell a tense, harrowing, but necessary story.
West Bay Community Theater President Terry Shea makes his Barker directorial debut with Talk Radio, having appeared there as an actor several times, most recently in 2024’s They Promised Her The Moon and 2018’s Deathtrap. Having spent many years behind a microphone as an on-air personality, Talk Radio has a special place for Shea, combining his love for the mediums of theater and radio. Both have the power to make a direct, local, and immediate impact on a community – Talk Radio will provoke and inspire long after the “On Air” sign goes dark.

The birds are back in town!&nbsp;Join the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Roger Williams Park to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day with a full weekend of fun, hands-on activities for all ages. Discover the incredible journeys of migratory birds and learn how you can help protect them and their habitats. 
Weekend Activities | Saturday, May 9– Sunday, May 10 10am–4pm | Bird Family Fun Follow the flock! Enjoy migratory bird–themed activities and hands-on&nbsp;experiences. Cost:&nbsp;Free with Museum admission.&nbsp; 2pm | Flight Adventures Fulldome Planetarium show Discover the science of flight through the eyes of a young girl and her grandfather as they explore how birds, kites, planes and models fly. Learn about the history and future plans of flight and how NASA is discovering new and safer ways to travel with the help of future engineers and aviators – like YOU! The program is followed by a brief tour of the night sky using the planetarium’s Zeiss star projector. Audience: General (children must be age 4+) Cost:&nbsp;Planetarium show ticket (includes museum admission) is $5/ Museum Members Free. IMPORTANT PLANETARIUM SHOW GUIDELINES: Tickets are recommended to be reserved online, including for Museum Members. Availability is limited. All sales are final. Everyone attending the planetarium show needs a ticket. Children must be age 4 or older; those 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children must be&nbsp;supervised at all times. Phones must be silenced, and attendees should remain quiet during the show to help everyone enjoy the full experience. 10am | Sunday, May 10 | Urban Naturalist Hike in Roger Williams Park Join us for a walk around Roger Williams Park to learn more about the environment around us! We’ll search for signs of the different birds, mammals, plants and bugs in the city’s backyard. Binoculars are not required but encouraged for animal sightings. Walk meets at the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium.&nbsp; 
Recommended for ages 4 and older – families encouraged! Pets are strollers are not permitted. Cost: $3 per person/free for Museum Members.
