Free Family Fun Activities this Weekend from BofA - Oct 3 and 4

This weekend, Bank of America is sponsoring several free family friendly activities throughout the state and SouthCoast. 

Saturday, Oct 3 (rescheduled from last week) - Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium - WHALES!
Thanks to Bank of America, the Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium is open free to the public for Free Family Fun Day one Saturday each month. No need to register, all programs are offered free of charge.

All Day: Craft Table
10:00am-3:00pm: Whale Feeding Station – Explore how whales feed in this hands-on activity. Try your hand at feeding like a whale!
10:00am: Nature Story
11:00am & 2:30pm: Touch Tank
12:00-2:00pm: Whale Investigation – Learn about whale characteristics, adaptations, and behavior as you explore a life-sized whale model!
Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct 4.- Museums on Us Free admission with a BofA debit or credit card.
RISD Museum -  The Artistry and Reunion of Two Surimono Albums (sponsored by BofA) closes Oct. 4.

The exhibition brings together two extraordinary albums of nearly 200-year-old Japanese woodblock prints for the first time in decades, offering a visually rich look at Japan’s art and literary culture in the 1800s. The intricate surimono prints combine poetry and imagery with rich colors, raised designs and metallic pigments, making them especially compelling to see on camera.

There’s also a fascinating Rhode Island connection: in 1863, American geologist Raphael Pumpelly received the albums as a farewell gift from Japanese friends while in Japan. The albums were later passed down through his family, with one eventually coming to the RISD Museum in the 1950s and the other remaining in Japan. The exhibition, sponsored by Bank of America, reunites the two sets of prints and explores the stories behind how they were created, commissioned and shared.

New Bedford Whaling Museum - SAILOR’S VALENTINES: Maritime Art from the HeartShellwork mosaics, known as sailor’s valentines, consist of colorful shells in intricate arrangements housed in octagonal wooden boxes. Created primarily between 1830 and 1890, their designs incorporate hearts, flowers, and nautical symbols like anchors and compass roses. Sometimes they carry romantic messages written out in tiny shells.
