Coastal Medical's Charity and Community Service Initiative Provides Food to Help Families

Food to Help Families
RHODE ISLAND – Employees from Coastal Medical’s Charity and Community Service Initiative recently led annual efforts to collect non-perishable food donations for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank to help create a hunger free Rhode Island. As a whole, Coastal donated over 900 pounds of food to those in need in the community.
“Accessing healthy food options is critical to the overall health of the Rhode Island population. We greatly appreciate the support of Coastal employees who give so freely when we organize donation events. Everyone is involved and I’m really proud of that!” said Shannon Boyd, Donations Subgroup Co-lead and Medicaid Accountable Entity Program Manager at Coastal Medical.

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank distributes food to families and individuals in need through a statewide network of 168 member agencies, including food pantries, meal sites, shelters, youth programs, and senior centers. Each month 53,000 food insecure Rhode Islanders receive food assistance at these agencies.
“I am truly humbled by everyone’s generosity and honored to be a part of such an amazing company,” said Hope Teixeira, Donations Subgroup Co-lead and Sr. Financial Data Analyst.

The Coastal employees in the Charity and Community Service Initiative, which formed in January 2019, have also donated backpacks with school and health supplies to patients in need at Coastal’s pediatric and family practices; built a safe and affordable home for a family in need in Woonsocket for Habitat for Humanity West Bay & Northern R.I. Inc.; and raised money to support Hasbro Children’s Hospital through RhodyTHON’s first annual 5k color run this past October.
Later this year, the Donation subgroup plans to collect supplies for local animal shelters, as well as essentials for homeless shelters.
