Fundraiser Launched To Cover Funeral Costs Of Providence Teen

PROVIDENCE, RI — The family of a Central High School student found dead in a Providence park on Saturday have launched a fundraising campaign to help cover his funeral costs. 17-year-old Cameron Chun was reported missing on February 21. His body was recovered from the water off of Collier Park on May 4.

"With the help of family and friends we searched and searched with no luck, just hope heavy in our hearts; we just wanted him home safe. Unfortunately, Cameron is no longer with us," reads a GoFundMe page started in his honor. "We are asking for your help to send him away peacefully. All contributions will go towards his funeral."

As of Friday, just under $1,300 had be raised of the $6,000 goal.

Chun's family described him as a respectful, kind person who "kept out of trouble and always stayed to himself."

"Cameron was an excelling junior at Central High School and worked at Bubble Tea House," the post continues. "He had dreams of traveling the world."

Chun's body was found in the water off of Collier Park on Saturday, May 4. Providence police identified him as the missing teen on Monday. Foul play is not suspected in his death.

The Central High School junior went missing on February 21.

The Providence and Cranston Police Departments, the Rhode Island State Police and FBI were all involved in the search for Chun.

A funeral ceremony will be held for Chun at The Buddhist Center of New England in Providence at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by his cremation at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home in West Warwick.
