Fundraiser Underway For Providence Shooting Victim Ger'Vontae Tilson

The 15-year-old's mother is raising funds to help pay for funeral expenses. A police investigation is ongoing.

PROVIDENCE, RI — The mother of Ger’Vontae Tilson, the 15-year-old who was shot and killed in Providence on late Saturday night, organized a fundraiser to help her raise money for her son's funeral.

A GoFundMe page was created on Tuesday and has raised over $3,000 for expenses.

Gervonnie Page, Tilson's mother, described him as "intelligent, brave, talented, loving, kind-hearted and extremely loved." He grew up in both Johnston and West Warwick.

"He loved basketball, making music which he was so good at, and being a goofball. His laugh was contagious. His smile and eyes would light up the darkest room," she added.

According to Page, Tilson was soon to be a father.

He was found in a driveway on Wallace Street in the Silver Lake neighborhood of the city. A vigil was held for him on Sunday night in the same area.

No arrests have been made in the killing, and people were sparse with details during a Monday press conference.

Mayor Jorge Elorza released a statement on Sunday.

"Last night, Providence experienced a tragic loss when a teenage boy was shot and killed," said Elorza. "Our community mourns for his family, friends and our community who will all be impacted by this senseless act of violence. This matter is still under investigation and if anyone has any information regarding what happened, please contact the Providence Police."
