Here are the top four stories in Providence today:
- The unpopular multi-hub bus proposal in Providence is now officially off the table and in its place is a new plan to move the current hub from Kennedy Plaza to Dorrance Street, creating the Innovation District Bus Transit Center. The Providence community weighs in on the new plan with mixed opinions at public meetings. (Providence Media)
- Don't miss Luke Jerram's 23 foot-diameter traveling installation Gaia is coming to the Waterfire Arts Center in Providence for Planet Earth, the Environment and Our Future, a multimedia exhibition presenting over 30 works that spark dialogue about our natural world and the climate crisis we're facing. Bringing beauty to a desperate scenario, the exhibit is both thought-provoking and luminous.(Providence Media)
- A combined 50,649 students applied to the Brown University class of 2026 through regular and early decision and Brown has announced that only 5 percent of those who applied have been accepted. This marks a record low admittance for the school. Admitted students come from all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico however it is reported that California is the most represented state in the admitted class, followed by New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Florida, Connecticut, Illinois, Georgia and Pennsylvania. (The Brown Daily Herald)
- Although a grand jury declined to charge Providence Police Officer Domingo Diaz with assault, he may still be facing disciplinary consequences stemming from an incident that happened last summer when he was caught on video allegedly punching a teen suspect repeatedly. Public Safety Commissioner Steven Paré said the police department may still discipline Diaz, who is currently on military leave until November. (WPRI.com)
