Kalifornia Karl & Joe Mack Sax Are a Big Hit at Oak Hill Center
Karl Detken "Kalifornia Karl" Brings His "Joyful Noise Music Therapy" To Cheer Up Seniors

by Jeff Jacomowitz
Both residents and staff at Oak Hill Center, a 129-bed nursing and healthcare facility on Pleasant Street in Pawtucket enjoyed outstanding entertainment over the past two weeks. On Tuesday, July 31, Karl Detken (a.k.a. Kalifornia Karl), returned to the Center, this time along with his good friend, Joe Mack Sax, entertained the residents, like he's done on a number of occasions at Oak Hill Center.
The amazing entertainer, who is the Chief Entertainment Officer of Joyful Noise Music Therapy, plays rock, blues and soul. He was also equipped with, not only his guitars, but also a video screen to flash the lyrics so the audience could sing along with Karl and Joe or even do karaoke.

"Karl is one of our best entertainers," said Susan Cookson. "The residents love and adore him, he gets involved with the residents and includes them all."
Cookson is planning a lot more eye-opening events, such as having a zoo visit the Center on September 12.
