Here are the top five stories today in Providence:
- Providence police arrested 48-year-old Harrie Wheeler on Wednesday. He allegedly was caught on camera stealing a bike from a property, then returning to the same property several days later to attempt another larceny. Wheeler has a long list of charges on his record. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- Michelangelo spent four years of his life painting the Sistine Chapel, his interpretation of the history of creation. Now you can see it up close and personal at the 'Michelangelo – A Different View' display, coming to the RI Convention Center May 12-June 12. (What'sUpNewp)
- Roger Williams Zoo is illuminated by 50 displays that feature upwards of 700 handcrafted glowing lanterns as part of the Asian Lantern Spectacular going on now. The special installation will be aglow through July 4. The event also includes unique cultural performances that combine music, dance and costumes every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening. - Recreating many of the state's historical landmarks Providence resident, Andrew Grover has turned child's play into something beautiful. He uses Legos to create his masterpieces, brick by brick, preserving the history of the capital city. He takes several pictures of the landmark buildings he recreates before diving into his projects, painstakingly making sure that even the tiniest details are observed and replicated. (WPRI.com)
- Reviving Brown University's formerly inactive Polish Program, Paulina Duda, visiting assistant professor of Polish cinema and culture, started at the school this spring. Reportedly, Duda plans to re-develop the Polish Program at Brown using the "three pillars": increasing the Polish culture-based course offerings, hosting more Polish-based events on campus and developing fellowships for students studying the language.
