Providence Man Rescued From New Hampshire Climb
Two climbers needed assistance getting down from a route on Cannon Cliff in New Hampshire over the weekend, officials said.
FRANCONIA, NH — Two people were rescued from a New Hampshire climbing trail over the weekend, including one man from Providence.
New Hampshire Fish and Game officials were notified of two men stranded near the top of the Moby Grape climbing route on Cannon Cliff around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday.
According to officials, "William Doak, 28, of Providence, RI and Griffin Tanner, 27, of Brooklyn, NY had made plans to ascend the multiple-pitch route on Cannon Cliff during the day when they found themselves off the primary route when attempting to bypass a slab section."

Slab climbing refers to any climbing section with an angle of less that 90-degrees, meaning a climber can lean forward onto the wall.
The duo tried to get off the trail themselves, but put in a call for assistance around 9:15 p.m., officials said.

Conservation officers and a member of Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team arrived and ascended the trail, eventually reaching the two climbers and getting them to a point where they could hike down.
The group returned to the parking area around 3:50 a.m., officials said.
