Providence Police Officer Shot, Hospitalized: Report

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence Police officer was taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after he was shot in his protective vest, according to reports. The area around Douglas Avenue was closed to traffic and a suspect is reportedly in custody.

According to WPRI, Col. Hugh Clements confirmed that an officer was shot in the vest and taken to the hospital. His identity has not been released.

A suspect, Tyrone Robinson, 19, is in custody, WPRI reported, adding that the suspect was "well-known" to Providence police. Part of Douglas Avenue is still closed as police continue their investigation.
