Providence Woman Charged With Arson In Pawtucket Fire

One of the residents reported to police that he recognized the woman who allegedly set the fire from a prior relationship, police said.

PAWTUCKET, RI — A Providence woman faces arson charges after an early morning fire on Thursday in Pawtucket, police announced.

Pawtucket police responded to a Hope Street home around 5:40 a.m. after a caller reported that a woman had vandalized a window on the home before lighting it on fire.

Two people were inside the home at the time, and were woken up by fire alarms. When they woke up, they noticed the bathroom window sill was on fire, police said. The fire was extinguished, but the caller said recognized the woman from a previous relationship, police said.

On the way to the address, officers saw a vehicle and person who matched the description they were given, and conducted a traffic stop.

Police say they smelled gasoline coming from the vehicle, which gave them enough probably cause to place the 30-year-old woman under arrest.

The woman will be charged with first degree arson, domestic breaking and entering, domestic disorderly conduct, vandalism to a vehicle and misdemeanor narcotics charges.
