Rhode Island Coronavirus Cases Rise To 9,289; 17 New Deaths

The total number of coronavirus cases in Rhode Island rose by 327 from 8,962 on Friday.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island reported 327 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, plus 17 new deaths. The state's coronavirus total reached 9,289 with 296 total deaths over the course of the pandemic.

There are now 316 people being treated for COVID-19 at hospitals across the state. Eighty of those people are intensive care, and 54 are on ventilators. Just under 70,000 state residents have been tested so far.

Gov. Gina Raimondo has said the state's economy can begin to reopen after 14 days of declining or plateaued cases, as well as steady hospitalization rates. Rhode Island's stay-at-home order is set to end on May 8.

The number of new cases reported Saturday was slightly lower than on Friday when Rhode Island added 341 cases.
