PROVIDENCE, RI — The United States Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi made a Sunday morning stop at Farm Fresh Rhode Island. She wasn't picking up fresh produce or hot sauce from Rhed's, but was adding a little last-minute fire to the race for Rhode Island governor.

Just days ahead of the primary election, Pelosi was in Providence to endorse former CVS executive — and apparently family friend — Helena Foulkes.

The Providence Journal reports that about 200 people were present at the Sims Avenue location on Sunday, in which Pelosi spoke glowingly of Foulkes, calling her "the full package", according to WPRI.

Perhaps Foulkes could benefit from the late endorsement, which comes after a strong debate performance last week, but the most recent polling says she'll need it.

A WPRI and Roger Williams University poll from mid-August shows that incumbent Governor Dan McKee and Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea are neck and neck at the top, with McKee garnering 28 percent to Gorbea's 25 percent. Foulkes sat at 14 percent in the poll, which was published nearly a month ago.
