The cruiser's emergency lights were flashing when the crash occurred.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A distracted driver crashed into a parked police cruiser late Tuesday night. State police said the cruiser was on the scene of an emergency.

The crash happened on Route 6 in Providence. Police told the Associated Press said the state trooper in the car was not hurt and damage to the cruiser wasn't serious. No one else was hurt in the crash either. The cruiser's emergency lights were flashing when the crash occurred.

The driver was identified as Chheng Long, 52, of Providence. State police told Eyewitness News Long said he was disoriented by the flashing lights on scene, and didn't stop in time. Long was cited for obedience to a police officer (failure to obey), following too close to the vehicle in front and not adapting to road conditions requiring reduced speed.
