🌱 Warren Ave. House Fire + Hocus Pocus 2 Done Filming

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Providence.

Morning, people of Providence! It's me again, Miranda Fraraccio, your host of the Providence Daily.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy. High: 43 Low: 36.

Here are the top three stories in Providence today:

  1. One resident and two cats were displaced on Monday night after a house fire broke out in East Providence. Firefighters responded to a home on Warren Avenue at around 9:30 p.m. and struggled with a frozen hydrant, forcing them to find another one to put out the flames. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. (WPRI)
  2. Hocus Pocus 2 has finished filming and is now hinting at a release date. At this time, there is no official release date, however, Disney confirmed to Variety that the film will debut "at some point during the Halloween season this fall." The project was filmed throughout various parts of Rhode Island, including on Federal Hill, Chase Farm in Lincoln, where a Colonial-era town was built, LaSalle Academy in Providence, and Washington Square in Newport. (WPRI)
  3. COVID-19 cases have gone down 75 percent since the spike in early Jan., according to Gov. Dan McKee. During a briefing held by Gov. McKee and the Rhode Island Department of Health, officials discussed how Rhode Island has been handling the pandemic, and what changes will be made going forward. A 30-day extension has been requested for the medical teams sent from FEMA and the governor said that he's increasing the amount of National Guard members helping out in hospitals. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
