• Scituate Schools Shift $883,000 Surplus to Capital Projects (upriseri.com) — Scituate's School Committee has redirected an $883,000 surplus into one-time upgrades like new classroom furniture, safer kitchen equipment, and a planned CTE wing, while leaving big-ticket roof and field-light projects unfunded for now. Rising fuel and out-of-district tuition costs are squeezing the budget, and officials still can't fully explain why benefit expenses are running unusually high.
• Scituate Schools See High Vocabulary Gaps in Fall Testing (upriseri.com) — Scituate's elementary students are testing on grade level overall but showing unusually large gaps in vocabulary and comprehension that may also be dragging down math performance. Superintendent Linda Savastano told the School Committee she's eyeing curriculum changes and expanding targeted support blocks, promising to return with midyear growth data and state test results to track progress.
