• Albion Man Charged With Cyberstalking and Cyberharassment: Cops (patch.com) — Smithfield readers should know that Rhode Island State Police arrested a 28-year-old Albion man on Interstate 295 in town on a warrant for cyberstalking and cyberharassment. Troopers stopped him around 1:40 a.m., processed him at state police headquarters, and then turned him over to Coventry police, who are handling the underlying case.
   

• Fundraiser hints at magic of new lives for rescue dogs (johnstonsunrise.net) — Smithfield dog owners can support rescue pups on Oct. 3, when Village Paws on Putnam Pike hosts a nail‑clipping fundraiser for Little Rhody Rescue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature raffle prizes, giveaways, and visiting dogs from RIADEC, which trains rescue dogs for service, therapy, and community roles. Reserve a spot by calling Jules at Village Paws.
   

• Sports must go on, even as storm bears down on RI. Here are the scores (newportri.com) — Smithfield athletes were busy Thursday, with girls soccer edging Coventry 1-0 and field hockey shutting out Pilgrim 1-0, while the volleyball team fell to Westerly. The roundup also highlights North Smithfield's girls soccer win and notes St. Raphael visiting Smithfield for boys soccer Friday evening, giving local fans several matchups to follow or attend.
