Central Falls Man Gets 50-Year Sentence For Molesting Young Girl

In June, Carlos Rivera, 52 was convicted of one count of first degree child molestation and two counts of second degree child molestation.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Central Falls man was sentenced to 50 years in prison for molesting an 11-year-old girl with the possibility of probation after 30 years.

In June, Carlos Rivera, 52 was convicted of one count of first degree child molestation and two counts of second degree child molestation by a Providence County Superior Court jury presided over by Justice Brian Stern. Rivera was also ordered to have no contact with the victim and undergo sex offender counseling. He will have a lifetime registration as a sex offender when released.

During the trial, the State proved between July 18, 2013 and July 17, 2015, Rivera sexually molested an 11-year-old girl. The Attorney General's office said the victim reported the abuse to her pediatrician. The doctor called the Department of Children, Youth and Families.

The victim testified that Rivera molested her more than once. In addition to her testimony, Dr. Christine Barron and Dr. Amy Goldberg, both of the Hasbro Children's Hospital Aubin Center told the court room about their medical examinations of the victim. They said their findings showed "penetrative trauma."

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin spoke highly of the young girl for having the courage to stand up to her abuser.

"It took great courage for this young girl to disclose her abuse to members of law enforcement, after which healthcare professionals, law enforcement and child advocates were able to provide her with the support she needed to face her abuser in court and put him behind bars," said Kilmartin.
