The annual American Cancer Society event raises money for research and patient support.

PROVIDENCE, RI -- The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk will be held Sunday, Oct. 16, at Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence.
It's three miles through Downtown Providence, and it's held rain or shine, according to Ellen Schulte, spokeswoman.
"The walk will unite the community with a shared determination to help create a world free from the pain and suffering caused by breast cancer," she said.

“We all know someone whose life has been deeply affected by breast cancer,” Gov. Gina Raimondo said. “The numbers speak for themselves. These are mothers, sisters, grandmothers and friends whose lives are in jeopardy. Thanks to ever-advancing medicine and research, the experience of breast cancer today is better than that of even five years ago. But still we have to keep going, raising awareness and providing support. I look forward to joining survivors and advocates on October 16th in our capital city.”
