SILVER ALERT: Smithfield Police Search For Nonverbal Man

UPDATE, April 25, 9:30 a.m.: Smithfield Police said Thursday morning that Howard McGhean was located late Wednesday night.

SMITHFIELD, RI — A silver alert has been issued for a missing Smithfield man. Howard McGhean, 67, was last seen near Harris Road around 9 a.m. Wednesday. Police believe he could be in danger due to mental or physical issues, and the fact that he is nonverbal.

McGhean was last seen wearing a red parka, black baseball cap and blue pants. He is a white man with thinning brown hair, blue eyes and is five feet, nine inches and approximately 150 pounds.

Police said he may have been spotted on foot in the area of George Washington Highway and Farnum Pike, and he could possibly be heading towards Federal Hill in Providence.
