Smithfield Little League Now Accepting Applications for College & Trade School Scholarships

$500 College and Trade Sschool Scholarships for former Smithfield Little League Players

Smithfield Little League (SLL) is proud to once again offer scholarships to former players who embody the ideals and values of Little League Baseball. A limited number of one-year, $500 scholarships will be awarded to eligible individuals to assist with college tuition and, new this year, fees associated with the first year of trade school instruction.

The number of seasons played is no longer the sole requirement to be considered for a scholarship. The league believes that an applicant’s service to the league should be considered equally with playing time. Service could include the number of seasons served as an umpire or “Challenger Buddy”; helping to coach a team; attending games in support of younger players; or other efforts to support of youth baseball in Smithfield. Applicants must provide verification of acceptance to a trade school or accredited college or university.
Scholarship applications may be obtained by clicking here.
All applications must be postmarked no later than May 1, 2017 and include a complete, and signed, application; character reference or letter of recommendation and a 500-word, or less, essay. A committee comprised of members of the SLL Board of Directors will review all applications. Those selected for a scholarship award will be notified during Smithfield High School Honors Night in June.
Since 2000, Smithfield Little League has awarded tens of thousands in college scholarships to a number of former players who, well after their formal years of play, continued to demonstrate the core values of Little League Baseball.
