Smithfield Schools Clear First Hurdle For School Building Project

The state School Building Authority approved the stage one application.

SMITHFIELD, RI - From Smithfield Public Schools: The RI School Building Authority (SBA) approves Smithfield Public School’s Stage 1 Necessity of School Construction Application. The Stage 1 Application from Smithfield Schools, which includes extensive analysis of existing conditions and educational programming at the elementary schools, has been approved by the SBA at the Rhode Island Department of Education.

This accomplishment moves the district one step toward an approved school building project for renovations and additions at three of the four elementary schools and a closure of Winsor School. Next, the district will move forward with the Stage II application process that further defines the scope of the project and includes detailed cost estimates. The Stage II application is due to the SBA on February 1, 2018. Information from Stage II then informs a bond proposal for consideration by town voters.
