Updated: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning May Have Been Connected to Marijuana Grow, WJAR Reports

Four family members were discovered unconscious. Now, news sources say, the problem may have been due to a medical marijuana grow operation.

SMITHFIELD, RI — According to WJAR-TV, the family stricken by carbon monoxide poisoning was growing medical marijuana in the house.

Kristen Latour, the mother of the family, died on Sunday.

Rescue workers responded to the Pleasant View Avenue home last Wednesday night (Feb. 15).

According to Smithfield Fire Capt. Steve Quattrini, three children were initially taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital and are recovering. The fire department was scheduled to return to the scene at 8:30 Thursday to continue the investigation.

The family had a license to grow medical marijuana but may have modified the garage to run a house to the plants, Channel 10 said, citing a report.

The police department said no information would be available until tomorrow morning.
