Three Bryant Students Charged Following Early-Morning Assault

Joseph Kasperzyk​, Zahir Williams​ and Shelton McNeal are accused of breaking into a townhouse dorm and assaulting two residents.

SMITHFIELD, RI — Three Bryant University students were arrested Monday afternoon after police say they broke into a university dorm early Sunday morning. The suspects have been identified as Joseph Kasperzyk, 19, of New Haven, Connecticut, Zahir Williams, 20, of Bronx, New York and Shelton McNeal, 20, of Lakeland, Florida.

Smithfield police said all three students were arrested around 3 p.m. on Monday and charged with breaking and entering, simple assault, disorderly conduct and conspiracy.

Officers were called to the campus by Bryant Security around 2 a.m. on Sunday for a reported assault in Townhouse P-7. The residents told police they were violently woken up by the three suspects who had broken in and started banging on the doors and yelling for them to come out. They then assaulted two of the residents, broke a TV and ripped posters off of the walls.

Kasperzyk, Williams and McNeal were arraigned before a bail commissioner and released on $1,000 surety bail. They are scheduled to appear in court for a pre-arraignment conference on July 8.

The incident is still being investigated by the Smithfield police.
