Silent Film Screening: Buster Keaton in 'The Cameraman' with Live Musical Accompaniment

Join us for a special screening of The Cameraman (1928; 1h, 16min), starring Buster Keaton, with LIVE musical accompaniment!

Hopelessly in love with a woman working at MGM Studios, a clumsy man (Buster Keaton) attempts to become a motion-picture cameraman to be close to the object of his desire. Buster was gadget oriented, and he expertly weaved a motion picture camera into a plot containing a pretty girl, a few jealous rivals, an organ grinder’s monkey, and a battle in Chinatown to control it. Made in 1929, it was made at MGM studios and turned out so well that MGM used it to train future comedy directors.

Richard Hughes will provide some background on the film and then accompany the film on the piano as we enjoy this silent treasure. Movie snacks will be provided.

About the presenter: As a boy, Richard got hooked on the Keystone comedies shown on public TV and, years later, he learned the “Mood Music” used to accompany silent movies. He is currently traveling throughout New England presenting his programs at libraries, schools, and other venues. These silent films are fun to watch and a great way to experience our past.
