Dog Adoption Event At Little Compton's Sakonnet Vineyard

LITTLE COMPTON, RI — Sakonnet Vineyard in Little Compton is partnering with Lighthouse Animal Shelter of New Bedford, Massachusetts, for a dog adoption event Sunday.

"The event is free to attend, with wine, tastings and café items available for purchase," according to a media release.

Adoption fees may vary.

"Guests will have the opportunity to meet dogs available for adoption, learn more about the adoption process, and enter to win gift baskets," the release said. "Guests may also enjoy the vineyard’s offerings, such as wines by the glass or bottle, wine tastings, and seasonal menu items from the café."

Founded in 1975, Sakonnet Vineyard is New England’s oldest vineyard, according to the release.

The all-volunteer, nonprofit Lighthouse Animal Shelter's effort to help homeless animals focuses on adult and senior animals.

"Dogs are rescued from high-intake shelters that have high euthanasia rates in southern states, who face the risk of euthanasia due to no fault of their own," the release said. "The cats in care are all local strays or owner surrenders, as well as some resident feral cats, who are loved dearly."
